We collect hair for children who are in need of wigs when they are going through chemo treatments. We collect hair that has NOT been chemically treated, that is a minimum of 25 cm (10 inches) long tied in one or two ponytails. We then send the hair to a hair factory in Austria for processing. As one donation is not enough hair to make a wig in the color, length and style we need, the factory purchases the hair from us and give us a credit. When the STOLLERY Hospital sends us a child who cannot afford a wig, we can then order from the factory what the recipient requires using our credit.
It is a very rewarding moment for us when we put the wig on the child and get a smile for our contribution. So if you have long hair and want to help us to put a smile on a child’s face, you can donate your hair to us. You can either drop it off anytime between 9am – 6pm Tuesday to Saturday or send it in the mail. Please also include your name and address so we can send you a thank you note.
